Das fortlaufende Fotoprojekt baraye – dafür. ist inspiriert von dem gleichnamigen Protestsong des iranischen Sängers Shervin Hajipour, der aus Tweets eine Hymne für die Woman-Life-Freedom-Bewegung im Iran schuf. Sie entstand 2022 nach dem Tod von Jina Mahsa Amini, die wegen angeblichen Verstoßes gegen die obligatorischen Kleidungsvorschriften von der Sittenpolizei festgenommen und gefoltert wurde und in Polizeigewahrsam starb.
baraye – dafür. versteht sich als Beitrag zu Sichtbarkeit, Solidarität und Aufklärung. Es zeigt Porträts von Frauen mit iranischen Wurzeln, die in Deutschland aufgewachsen sind und als Diaspora-Aktivistinnen ihre Stimme für die Menschen im Iran erheben. Die Protagonistinnen zeigen Gesicht für all diejenigen, die aktuell im Iran für dieselben Rechte Repression, Gefängnis und Tod fürchten müssen. Jede von ihnen steht stellvertretend für eines oder mehrere Themen aus dem Song.
Als Halbiranerin reflektiert die Fotografin über persönliche Freiheit und darüber, wie viel von dem, was hier alltäglich ist, im Iran unerreichbar erscheint – und weist zugleich auf die Kraft der feministischen Revolution hin.

The ongoing photo project baraye – dafür. (= for/because of) is inspired by the eponymous protest song by Iranian singer Shervin Hajipour, who turned tweets into an anthem for the Woman-Life-Freedom movement in Iran. It emerged in 2022 following the death of Jina Mahsa Amini, who was arrested and tortured by the morality police for allegedly violating mandatory dress codes – and ultimately died in police custody.
baraye – dafür. sees itself as a contribution to visibility, solidarity, and awareness. It features portraits of women with Iranian roots who grew up in Germany and raise their voices as diaspora activists for the people in Iran. These protagonists show their faces for all those currently facing repression, imprisonment, and death in Iran for the same rights. Each of them stands for one or more themes from the song.
As a half-Iranian, the photographer reflects on personal freedom and how much of what is everyday here remains unattainable in Iran – while also pointing to the power of a feminist revolution.
